Passed away suddenly Friday, September 26 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, with her husband Gordon, and daughter Helen at her side. Survived by brother Charles (in England). She will be greatly missed by family, and many friends. Visitation at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, AJAX (905-428-8488) Tuesday September 30 from 6 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 796 Eyer Drive, Pickering on Wednesday October 1 at 11am. Online condolences in memory of Chrissie may be offered at www.mceachniefuneral.ca.

Chrissie was born in England in 1942, and lived in Kenya, Uganda and India, before attending the University of Lausanne in Switzerland to obtain a degree in Diatetics and learn French, Spanish and some German. Upon returning to England, she trained as a nurse. Chrissie joined BOAC in 1964 as a Stewardess and Medical Escort.

She married Gordon (Gord) in 1966 and they emigrated to Canada in 1968. After a short time in London, ON, the family settled in Pickering in 1971, where they made many friends in the community. Chrissie’s professional life centred on serving and helping others and culminated in her years as a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society and, more recently, The St Vincent de Paul Society.
She was a devout Catholic who took great joy in working with the retired Jesuit priests at Manresa infirmary as an Activities Coordinator. This harkened to her experiences as a child with the “White Fathers” in developing Africa.

She and Gord have a trailer in the Bobcaygeon area, where they also made many friends. Chrissie frequently had at least one dog at her side; and if not sharing her life with her own dogs, would happily babysit and spoil someone else’s dog.

Chrissie was the organizer’s organizer, who always found the time for others, and her empathy reached out to anyone in need at exactly the right moment.

Chrissie will be remembered as a dedicated and faithful friend; and as a surrogate “mom” to many. She had an irrepressible sense of humour that could find the funny side of almost any situation, and was busy making us all laugh right to the end.
