Scheiring, Evelyn (25 May 1931- 8 April 2016) of Ajax, Ontario passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family after a valiant struggle. Evelyn was tenth of twelve children born to Adolf and Annie Wolf in the Dundurn district of Saskatchewan. She attended a one-room school (Coates) then on to City Park Collegiate in Saskatoon for high School. Following high school she was employed as a telephone operator for ten years, then attended Saskatoon Teacher’s College, graduating in 1962. Evelyn taught Grade 2 in Saskatoon, Ottawa, Scarborough and Kitchener. Meticulous, creative and insightful, with a great love of her students, she later embarked on a career of tutoring students with learning challenges. She was able to understand their struggles and developed special methods to help them overcome the “snags” in their learning process, with remarkable success. Evelyn was gifted with the ability to read people through concentration on tea leaves. She was a popular addition to the “House Next Door” tearoom in Pickering Village for a number of years. After her marriage, she lived in Innsbruck, Austria for a time. An avid gardener, her house graced the nicest blue morning glories ever! She also played her button accordion at church functions, being self-taught and proficient enough to have won a free trip to Scotland for herself and her mother at the tender age of four. She became known for her delicious homemade perogies. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Adolf, Matilda (Wieser), Wilhelmina (Hauck), Raymond (Ruth), Elizabeth (Paul), Arnold (Ethel), Edmund, Elmer and Leonard (Bridget). She is survived by her sister Orpha (Lennart Anderson) of Pickering, Ontario and brother Walter (Florence) and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the excellent medical staff at the Ajax-Pickering Hospital who gave it their best. Memorial Service to be held Friday, 15 April 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 119 Church Street, Pickering Village, in Ajax, Ontario at 11:00 a.m. If you so desire, it was Evelyn’s wish that any monetary expressions of sympathy be made to the Second Chance Animal Sanctuary or any local animal shelter in lieu of flowers.
