Garland Leslie Barnes Hiscock, age 91 years, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2014. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by Vera, his wife of 66 years. Much loved father / father-in-law to daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Robin, and son Leslie and daughter-in-law Victoria. He was cherished by his grandchildren Kaity, and Stephanie and Joshuah.
Garland grew up in Newfoundland. When WW2 arrived, he exaggerated his age and enlisted to serve overseas. Discharged as a young man, Garland settled in Toronto where he met his wife and they created a loving home to raise a daughter and son. Garland was employed by Loblaws Supermarkets Limited for more than 35 years before retiring to the south shore of Rice Lake. He was a personable man with many friends who enjoyed his humour and mischievous nature. Garland loved the outdoors; in the summer, he fished and camped and in the winter, he skated. Hockey was his passion for many years and he was an enthusiastic armchair coach. He was an active member of Tango Sierra and TransCanada radio clubs and had lively conversations over the airwaves about every topic imaginable. In recent years, Garland suffered from severe dementia leaving his family to safeguard their memories of a loving husband, awesome dad, and fun-loving grandpa. We promise not to forget.
Cremation. Private family service to take place at a later date, with internment in Newfoundland. Please honour Garland’s memory by performing an act of kindness that will brighten someone’s day.
