Passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday May 25, 2016 at Woodhaven Nursing Home in Markham. Born at home in Toronto, Ontario on November 19, 1927 to George and Ellen Holland, she was the second of five children. She is predeceased by her life partner Russ Magee, her parents, her brother Murray and Billy Holland and survived by her sisters Jean Strachan and Elma Best. She will be forever missed and always in the hearts of her daughter Joanne Grenaghan and son David Goddard, her 5 grandchildren, Marlee, Daniel, Matthew, Ryan (Jenna) and Melissa as well as her great-grandchildren, Zachary, Zoe and Brooklyn. Most of her working years were spent as a head cashier for Loblaws where she enjoyed interacting with the customers who loved coming through her register because she made them laugh and smile…even in the last years of her life she was known and loved at the nursing home for her sharp wit and the ability to put a smile on a sad face. She was also an enthusiastic square dancer and enjoyed local monthly dances with Russ and friends. She loved to travel and looked forward to her RVing trips to Florida in the winters and visits to the Calgary stampede in the warmer months. She also loved time spent with family and friends at the cottage in Creemore, Ontario on the Mad River. She was the centre around which our family revolved and we will move forward cherishing the life lessons she taught us all. A graveside service will be held at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens, (1757 Church Street N., Ajax) on Friday June 3 at 11am. Joyce was a two time breast cancer survivor; in lieu of flowers and in her honour memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McEachnie Funeral home 905-428-8488
