<div itemprop="description">ANTONOVICH, Stella, affectionately known as “Aunty”, passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville. Stella was born in Minsk, Russia, March 1926 to parents Emelian S. ANTONOVICH and Julia KOZAK. She immigrated to Canada in 1935 and resided in Toronto for several years. The family then purchased a small farm in Pickering where Stella also operated a corner variety store. With the sale of the farm in 1987, Stella moved to a house in Whitby where she remained until her health declined.Stella is survived by her younger sister Lena Russell of Oshawa, nephew Mark Russell (Diana) of Port Perry, and nieces Susan McInnes (nee Russell) of Oshawa and Denise Renkiewicz (nee Russell) of Bowmanville. She was a memorable and dedicated great aunt to great nephews and nieces: Nicholas, Julia and Phillip Russell, Andrew and Christopher McInnes, and Shelby and Bradley Renkiewicz. A feisty and determined lady, Stella overcame major health challenges with courage and stoicism. She continued to enjoy gardening, shopping, driving and collecting recipes until her hospitalization. Family and friends will miss her frank wisdom, sense of humour and generous spirit. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cedarcroft Retirement Home and the Lakeridge Health Hospitals in Oshawa and Bowmanville for providing Stella with comfort and care.Visitation will take place at McEachnie Funeral Home (28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax, Pickering Village) on Saturday, October 01, 2016 at 9:30 am followed by a funeral ceremony at 11:30 am. Interment will follow at Erskine Cemetery. For those who wish, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated. <br></div>
